SideDrive: Drop-in replacement for a 1 HP motor or servo and gearbox

Bolt it to the 56C mount you already have and run it from a standard VFD. No gearbox, no oil and nothing to maintain, sealed in 316 stainless.

Same mount. No gearbox. No oil.

SideDrive takes the place of the whole motor and gearbox on the frame you already run. The drip tray goes, and so does the shaft mount bearing.

After SideDrive on the same frame. One sealed part, nothing underneath.

Running a servo and gearbox instead? SideDrive replaces those too, without an encoder or servo drive.

Where it fits.

  • Start, stop, reverse

Synchronous motion with 120 Nm of peak torque on tap.

  • Indexing and timing

Precise start and stop with no encoder and no servo drive.

  • Hygienic washdown

True IP69K in 316 stainless, with no oil to leak into the product zone.

  • Fewer spares

One drive covers gearbox ratios from 6:1 to 30:1 and up.

Three steps on the line.

No new frame, no new controls. If you can change a gearmotor, you can fit a SideDrive.

  1. Unbolt the motor and gearbox.

Take off the gearmotor and its drip tray. The frame and the shaft stay where they are.

  2. Bolt SideDrive to the 56C pattern.

The 1.25" hollow core takes the shaft directly. Four 3/8-16 holes on a 5.875" bolt circle, with a torque arm to the frame.

  3. Wire it to your VFD.

Any VFD with a PM mode or sensorless vector control. On a PowerFlex 525, load our parameter file and run.

Based on average stainless steel AC motor and gearbox setups.

576 W → 326 W measured on one drive, head-to-head.

$10M is the average cost of a contamination recall (FDA). SideDrive has no oil to leak.

Cutaway of SideDrive: copper stator windings around the hollow shaft, sealed bearings, and the junction box on top, all inside a stainless shell

Nothing inside to wear out.

SideDrive is an outrunner. Permanent magnet arrays turn the shaft directly, with no gears and no oil in between. We call it Direct Drive Rotary Motion (DDRM).

  • Fully sealed to IP69K
  • 316 stainless steel shell
  • NEMA 56C bolt pattern
  • Synchronous motion control
  • Oil-free and gear-free
  • 3-year warranty

6+ years proven service life in washdown production.

Works with your controls.

Run SideDrive from the VFD you know: any drive with a PM mode or sensorless vector control, from 110 V single-phase to 460 V three-phase.

Runs on Allen-Bradley, Yaskawa, Lenze, Emerson. We recommend an Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 525, 460 V, 3 HP or comparable for most lines. Use a shielded 4-conductor VFD cable rated to 600 V.

Always use a VFD. Connecting SideDrive straight to main power will cause severe damage and void the warranty.

Your VFD becomes the monitor.

Because the motion is direct, output current follows the load. Rising amps mean resistance in the machine, so standard VFD readings show a problem as it starts.

Set a shear-pin limit.

Set a healthy current threshold on the VFD and overcurrent events stop before they damage the line. No extra hardware or software.

Gearbox ratios it replaces

A 1 HP washdown AC motor needs a 30:1 gearbox to reach the peak torque SideDrive gives on its own, and runs 0–300 RPM at every ratio.

Ratio not listed? Email om.support@actionpaq.com.

SideDrive gives 120 Nm / 88.6 ft‑lb peak at every ratio.

Questions people ask.

Will SideDrive fit where my gearmotor is now?

If the gearmotor mounts to a NEMA 56C face, yes. SideDrive bolts to the same four 3/8-16 holes on a 5.875" bolt circle and takes a 1.25" shaft in its hollow core. Send us your current motor and gearbox and we’ll confirm the fit.

Can it replace a servo and gearbox?

Yes. SideDrive gives synchronous, precise start/stop motion from a standard VFD, so you don’t need an encoder or a servo drive.

Which VFD do I need?

Any VFD with a permanent magnet (PM) mode or sensorless vector control, from 110 V single-phase to 460 V three-phase. We recommend an Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 525, 460 V, 3 HP or comparable for most applications, and SideDrive runs on Allen-Bradley, Yaskawa, Lenze, Emerson drives.

Can I wire it straight to line power?

No. SideDrive always runs from a VFD. Connecting it to main power without one will cause severe damage and void the warranty.

What if my gearbox ratio isn’t listed?

SideDrive covers ratios from 6:1 to 30:1 and up. For anything else, email om.support@actionpaq.com and our engineers will check it.

Does it need maintenance?

No routine maintenance. There’s no gearbox, no oil and no seals or bearings to service on a schedule.

What’s the warranty?

Three years. SideDrive’s direct drive technology has a proven service life of more than six years in washdown production.
